Feedback at 5:00: New Red Wings Arena

Posted: Updated:

Here in Michigan, we take hockey very seriously.

And when Olympia Development released plans for the new Detroit Red Wings arena, it took off online.

The downtown image is pretty bold with a large, red-capped arena featuring the Red Wings logo on top.

The project is expected to cost about $650 million. Groundbreaking is expected to start this fall.

The Wings would be able to play there by 2017.

It will be built near Comerica Park and Ford Field.

While it has a lot of people excited, it also has some pretty unhappy, given the state of Detroit's economic woes right now.

According to the Detroit Free Press, no money will come out of the city's general fund.

But taxpayers would help foot about $261 million of the bill, through tax increment financing.

What do you think of the new arena development?

It's today's Feedback at 5:00.
