Costa Concordia Afloat Once Again

Posted: Updated:

2-and-a-half years after hitting a reef and capsizing, the Costa Concordia cruise ship is once again afloat.

It is the first step of one of the most complex shipwreck recovery efforts ever.

The cruise ship capsized near Italy's Giglio Island in 2012.

32 people were killed. One of the victims has never been found.

Captain Francesco Schettino is on trial for the shipwreck. Investigators say he was steering too close to the island, and then abandoned ship before everyone else had been safely evacuated.
