Business Busier Than Expected During NCF Week

The National Cherry Festival is coming to an end, but downtown businesses still expect sales to be up through the weekend.

Traverse City downtown businesses said this year has been bigger than ever.

"The weekend was great, the people were great. People were in a good mood, people we're excited," said Hannah Roman, High Five Threads sales associate.

Year after year, the festival gives a huge shot in the arm to local businesses. High Five Threads opened their second location in Traverse City last year.

This year was their first year on Front Street during the big event.

"Tuesday was one of our busier days," said Roman. "The weather definitely brought people away from the beach and downtown to shop."

And the week was bigger and busier than what they expected.

"There has been A lot more than we expected with foot traffic," said Roman.

Even businesses that have been around for past festivals said they saw a 20 percent increase in sales this week.

"I think during the week it was definitely what we expected,' said Chrissy Burke, Sugarkissed owner. "Last weekend was incredibly busy and it was more than I ever anticipated."

Both businesses said they expect to be extremely busy after Saturday's DTE Energy Cherry Royale Parade.
