President Obama Heads to Texas to Discuss Immigration Crisis

Posted: Updated:

President Obama heads to Texas Wednesday to speak about the immigration crisis.

The visit was originally part of a two-state fundraising trip, but the White House added another event in Dallas to specifically talk about unaccompanied minors at the border.

The president has already asked Congress for billions of dollars to address the immigration crisis.

It's an issue that's hotly debated in Texas, where the governor has criticized the president for not securing the border, and dragging his feet on deportations.

Senator John Cornyn is also upset that the president is choosing to not tour the border. "If you refuse to go out of stubborn pride or whatever the reason is, then you are simply going to be ignorant of what are the best ways we can work together to solve this underlying problem."

On Tuesday, the White House asked Congress for $3.7 billion in immediate, emergency funding to do things like house, feed and care for tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors.
