Manistee County's Penny Park Gets Boost in Funding for Improvements

Posted: Updated:

A park in dire need of an upgrade is about to get some major TLC.

The Village of Eastlake in Manistee County received two grants Tuesday morning totaling $15,000 to revamp Penny Lake Park.

CMS Energy Foundation and TES Filer City Station pitched in money toward the project, which had already received about $150,000 from other grants.

The money will be used to install a new boat launch and universally accessible playground equipment.

Organizers have also planned major improvements to the 38-site campground.

"It was a real priority for the community to build this park into something that would become a destination for people throughout the spring, summer and fall," explained Tim Ervin, Alliance for Economic Success.

Those involved with the project say they are still in need of good, hard-working volunteers.

If you'd like to help out or see what other improvements are on the horizon for Penny Park, head to the Manistee Foundation's website.

Penny Park will be an Explore the Shores site. Find details on the program here
