Man Allows Child to Steer Vehicle, Accused of Driving on Suspended License

Posted: Updated:
A driver from Bloomfield Hills was seen with his young daughter sitting on his lap, apparently allowing her to steer the car on a Leelanau County road.

Leelanau County Sheriff's Office received the report from another person stating a black car was swerving in its lane on Co. Rd. 641. The caller also said a young child was sitting the driver's lap.

Deputies caught up with the car at the intersection of Co. Rd. 641 and M-204. They noticed the 5-year-old sitting in the driver's lap and she appeared to be steering the vehicle.

When deputies pulled the car over, neither the driver nor the child were wearing seat belts.

The Bloomfield Hills man was cited for driving on a suspended license.

The child and car were turned over to the driver's wife.
