Charges Filed Against Energy Company in Land Leasing Scheme

Posted: Updated:

More charges filed in Michigan against an energy company for what the attorney general calls a land-leasing scheme.

A complaint filed earlier this month against Chesapeake, an Oklahoma-based energy company, says land options in northern Michigan were obtained to keep competing companies from leasing.

The leases were later canceled when the competition for the land ended.

State Attorney General Bill Schuette says Chesapeake now faces 20 counts of false pretenses.
