Carpenter Receives Medal of Honor

Posted: Updated:

This man is responsible for saving a fellow Marines life, and has received the highest military honor for it.

President Obama presented the Medal of Honor to Marine Corps veteran William Carpenter in a ceremony at the White House today.

In 2010, Carpenter jumped on a live grenade during firefight with the Taliban.

It destroyed one eye, most of his jaw and collapsed one of his lungs.

He is only the eighth living recipient to be chosen for the Medal of Honor in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Since returning from combat, he has run a marathon, gone skydiving, and is now enrolled at the University of South Carolina.
