Coast Guard Hosts Ceremony to Change Commanders

Posted: Updated:
A traditional ceremony was held today to welcome a new leader to the helm of a very important ship on the Great Lakes.

The crew aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw said their formal goodbyes to their captain today in Cheboygan.

The crew says this year was an intense and long one when it came to ice cutting operations.

The crew says Captain Mike Davanzo helped guide and mentor many of them.

Vasilios Tasikas, the new commander,
says he hopes to pick up where the former captain left off and lead the crew to success.

The crew says they're excited to see what the future holds but are sad to see their captain go.
