Fundraiser Underway for Big Rapids Memorial Park

Posted: Updated:
Plans for a memorial park in one northern Michigan community are underway, but those involved say they're going to need a bit of help completing it.

A fundraiser is being held to help build the Veterans and Homefront Heroes Memorial at Holland Park in Big Rapids.

Personalized bricks for the park are being sold to help with the estimated $150,000 cost of the park.

Co-chair Jean Bennett tells 9 & 10 News the park is something that was greatly needed in the community and will be a wonderful way to honor those who have served our countries, as well as their families.

"I think they'll enjoy it, it will be a nice, quiet place to sit and ponder and bring the kids in, maybe have a picnic or something and just sit and enjoy it," Bennett explains.

Bennett says the park should be completed within the next two to three years.

For more information on the memorial park, or purchasing a brick, you can call Jean Bennett at 231-823-2366 or send an e-mail to veterans-homefrontheroes@outlook.com.
