Oilers and Hurons win State Titles on the diamond, Beal loses in D-4

EAST LANSING - Mt. Pleasant baseball and Rogers City softball left East Lansing Saturday with State Championships.  Beal City baseball fell one win short again.

Mt. Pleasant earned it's third title and first since 2007 with a 7-2 win against Richmond Saturday morning at McLane Stadium on the campus of Michigan State University.

Rogers City won its first softball State Championship in school history when it beat Kalamazoo Christian 3-2 at Secchia Stadium at MSU.

Beal City baseball lost in the Division 4 Final for the second straight year.  New Lothrop beat the Aggies 5-0 Saturday.

The Oilers scored a run in the 1st and really broke it open with three more runs in the 3rd.

Aaron Leasher had another strong outing on the hill.  Pitching a complete game four-hitter and striking out seven.

Beal City wanted to avenge it's extra-innings loss to Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett in the 2013 Final.  The Aggies collected 7 hits in the game but could not get anyone home safely.  One of their best chances to get on the board was in the 3rd.  Nick Hoogerhyde hit a single to center but New Lotrhop's centerfielder threw out the Aggie runner at home.

New Lotrhop really busted the game open with a three-run 4th.

Rogers City actually gave up a run to the Comets in the 1st but got it back with an RBI single from Sarah Meredith.  Alexa Quiane put the Hurons ahead with an RBI double in the 5th.  Morgan Hall knocked in an insurance run with an RBI double in the 7th.

The Hurons needed that insurance.  The Comets scored a run in the final frame, but Rogers City pitcher Nikki Radke induced a fly-out to end the game and secure the State Championship.
