NEW WEBSITE PROVIDES TRAINING AND TOOLS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TO LAUNCH SUMMER BUSINESSES

NEW YORK, May 15, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) today announced the launch of a new MakeYourJob.org – a youth-focused website with free, game-like training and resources for young people to turn their interests into summer businesses.

Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship.

Young people between the ages of 14 and 19 who sign-up at MakeYourJob.org will be guided through a business launch simulation covering many of the basics of the successful NFTE classroom curriculum. In addition to the education and training on launching a summer business, winners of the online gaming business simulation can win up to $2,500.

"Young people learn life-long skills and priceless experience in summer jobs – opportunities which are becoming more and rarer, especially for minority and disadvantaged young people" said Amy Rosen, NFTE President and CEO. "Thanks to the generous investment of the Citi Foundation, we've been able to greatly expand our in-person summer entrepreneurship programs and the new MakeYourJob.org will expand the reach of these important programs exponentially."

Through funding from the Citi Foundation, NFTE will increase the number of students who participate in their signature summer programs: Startup Summer and BizCamps in key communities across the country. MakeYourJob.org will bring the power of entrepreneurship to tens of thousands of more students. The platform is a key component of Pathways to Progress a three-year, $50 million commitment by the Citi Foundation to improve the career readiness of 100,000 low-income youth in the United States.

"For many, entrepreneurship is a gateway to the American Dream, and MakeYourJob.org will enable young people to combine their creativity and interests with NFTE's expertise and know-how to begin turning their ambitions into reality," said Brandee McHale, Chief Operating Officer of the Citi Foundation. "This resource aims to convene a community of supporters who will provide advice and guidance to young entrepreneurs as they make investments in their own progress."
