WASHINGTON, May 6, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hospice Foundation of America (HFA) will present a live, online webinar focusing on Youth Suicide and Grief on Tuesday, May 20, from noon-1:30pm ET. Kenneth J. Doka, PhD and John R. Jordan, PhD, will offer information to assist clinicians, teachers and counselors in helping young people cope with grief when a peer or loved one dies by suicide. Doka and Jordan will share insights into how contemporary research translates into practice.
"According to the Centers for Disease Control, approximately 4,600 adolescents die by suicide each year, making it one of the leading causes of death in adolescence," Doka said. "Professionals who work with young people need to be prepared to offer appropriate support and guidance to young people after the suicide death of a peer."
Doka and Jordan will discuss reasons that death by suicide can complicate grief for surviving peers and offer therapeutic approaches and strategic interventions appropriate for survivors of youth suicide.
Hospice Foundation of America webinars offer affordable, easily accessible information presented by some of the best-known names in the study of death, grief and loss, while also providing suggestions for hands-on strategies that can be applied in clinical practice. During the live program, participants have the opportunity to ask questions of presenters.
