Three Northern Michigan High Schools Changing Tech Centers

Posted: Updated:

Three Northern Michigan high schools decided this week that they will send students to the Wexford-Missaukee Career Tech Center.

Two of those schools are Bear Lake and Brethren in Manistee County.

By changing from West Shore ESD to Wexford-Missaukee Career Tech Center next school year they will cut costs in half. "It's about the increased opportunities for our students, it's about the money we're going to save and then with those savings the other opportunities we can afford for our other students here left in the building," says Marlen Cordes, dual superintendent for Bear Lake and Brethren schools.

The new commute will only add 15 more minutes of travel time. The students are excited to have more programs available which may peak more students interest in the long run.

The tech center says they are anxious to grow and get more students involved in their exciting programs.

Grayling High School will also be sending their vocational students to Wexford-Missaukee Tech Center next year.

9&10's Katie Boomgaard spoke with the superintendent about the change.
