UPDATE: Police Name Driver Arrested For High-Speed Chase, Three Crashes

Posted: Updated:

We can now tell you the name of the man arrested for leading police on a high speed chase Wednesday afternoon.

Police arrested Matthew Carpenter after the chase from Gratiot County to Mt. Pleasant in Isabella County.

Thursday afternoon, Carpenter was charged with running from police, driving away from an accident and drunk driving.

Police say he hit three separate cars during his run.

They say he slowed down enough for them to pin him in but they don't think he wanted to.

Shepherd Police Chief Michael Main says, "we believe his car was failing at that time and with the flat tire and the heavy smoke coming out of it we believe his vehicle had mechanical issues. No injuries, miraculously no injuries so that was good."

No one was hurt in any of the crashes.
