Auto and Diesel Repair Industry Looking for Technicians

Posted: Updated:

The automotive and diesel repair industry is looking for help to fill positions everywhere from dealerships to repair shops.

Experts in the industry say good skilled technicians have been dwindling for years and that's caused some serious issues for employers.

Those close to the sector believe more emphasis on going to college and less on trade schools has helped create a shortage. They also believe the increase in technology within auto and diesel repair has deterred new people from entering the industry.

A technicians drought means employers are literally looking everywhere they can for new prospects, including out of state.

According to Northwest Michigan College and Bill Marsh's GMC in Traverse City, there are jobs available right now for technicians.

9&10's Breelynn Martin and Photojournalist Jeff Blevins talked to Northwest Michigan College and Bill Marsh's GMC about the issue.
