Man Killed in Mecosta County Fire

Posted: Updated:

The Mecosta County Sheriff's Department says one man died in an early morning fire.

It happened at his home in Austin Township, near Rodney on Timber Trail.

The Mecosta-Austin Fire Chief says by the time they arrived on the scene, the home was fully engulfed and beyond saving.

It wasn't until they almost had it out when they learned a man was inside the home and died in the fire.

Officers believed he had mobility issues.
Right now police are withholding the identity of the man until an autopsy confirms who he is.

A fire investigator was on the scene earlier and said the cause is unknown but the fire did start inside the home and foul play is not suspected.

9&10's Eric Lloyd and photojournalist Jeff Blevins looked into the fire today and have more details.
