Emmet Co. Student Accused Of Multiple Sex Crimes

Posted: Updated:

An Emmet County high school student is charged tonight with sex crimes for a relationship with a much younger student.

Sterling Sydow of Brutus was arrested after Pellston High School contacted police.

The Sheriff's department says Sydow had an inappropriate relationship with a student from the middle school who is under the age of 13.

They say the relationship happened between last summer, and this January.

The Sheriff says it's very helpful when schools notice something unusual, and report it immediately.

Emmet County Sheriff Peter Wallin says, "schools are required by law anytime there's a situation involving inappropriate relationships like that, they are required to report them to law enforcement."

Sydow is charged with six counts of criminal sexual conduct, and could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.  His bond was set at $50,000.
