Posted: Updated:

Detroit is welcoming it's newest state park.

The state is taking over Belle Isle, the park on an island in the Detroit River.

The state will leasing the park from the city for 30 years.

The new deal goes into effect today.

The lease is expected to save the hurting city around $5 million in just one year.

Current park hours will stay the same.

But now there is an $11 annual fee per car to visit.
