Feedback at 5:00: Shovel It Out Or Pay Up

Posted: Updated:

Shovel it out, or pay up.

The city of Grand Rapids says if homeowners don't clear their sidewalks on time, they could be fined.

Property owners have 24 hours to clear their adjacent sidewalks.

Once you're cited, the city gives you 48 hours to remove the ice and snow.

And if you don't follow the ordinance after that, a contractor clears the way and property owners have to pay.

It's a $95 fee, and $25 for each quarter hour of labor.

Most communities have similar rules in place.

Have you ever encountered something like this where you live?

Do you think it's enforceable in these extreme conditions we've been having? Should homeowners be held more accountable?

It's tonight's Feedback at 5:00.
