UPDATE: Cronk Sentenced For Child Abuse

Posted: Updated:

A Charlevoix County judge sentenced a father to prison for abusing his young daughter.

Steven Cronk was handed a sentence of five to ten years in prison on Friday.

Cronk decided not to make a statement in court. However, his daughter's mother made an emotional testimony about the medical issues that baby Brooke will likely have to deal with for the rest of her life.

He pleaded no contest to second degree child abuse earlier this month. That means he accepts the punishment, but does not admit to the crime.

The investigation started with a 9-1-1 call about a child struggling to breathe near Boyne City back in July.

Investigators say Cronk violently shook his 3-month-old daughter Brooke, causing serious injury.

Brooke was alone with Cronk and two other siblings when she was hurt.

Cronk was also ordered to pay nearly $7,000 in restitution.

9&10's Breelynn Martin and Photojournalist Tony Zyber attended Cronk's sentencing.
