UPDATE: Good Samaritan Injured in US-131 Accident

Posted: Updated:

Northern Michigan's News Leader has new details today in an accident that temporarily closed part of US-131.

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Department says a Williamsburg man stopped to help another driver who was stuck in a snow bank Thursday afternoon, about a quarter mile north of Elliott Road in Fife Lake Township.

The man who stopped was hooking up a tow strap to the driver's car, when officers say another car driven by a woman from Illinois lost control. She hit the Williamsburg man's car, pinning him between his vehicle and the one belonging to the woman he was helping.

The driver from Illinois could not regain control and hit another car before coming to a stop.

The Williamsburg man and a passenger in the car from Illinois had serious injuries and were taken to Munson Medical Center.

The weather was listed as clear at the time, but the roads were very icy.

The accident remains under investigation.
