Posted: Updated:

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) -- Researchers say placing dam-like structures in Chicago waterways would be an almost foolproof method to prevent Asian carp from entering Lake Michigan.

The University of Notre Dame, the US Forest Service, and Resources for the Future conducted the study,

In the newly released study, researchers say a physical barrier separating the Mississippi River from Lake Michigan would prevent 95-100% of Asian Carp. They say an electronic barrier prevents 85-95%.

Other methods include noisemakers and strobe lights to scare away the carp.

Conclusions are based of a survey of experts in fisheries management, aquatic nuisance species and related fields.
