Groups Exploring Options For Raising Michigan Minimum Wage - Northern Michigan's News Leader

Groups Looking To Raise Michigan Minimum Wage

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Groups in Michigan are looking to raise Michigan's minimum wage by adding it to the November ballot.

The groups created the Raise Michigan ballot committee to explore increasing the minimum wage.

Frank Houston, committee treasurer, says it is "highly likely" the groups will start by gathering hundreds of thousands of signatures to qualify for the ballot.

Governor Rick Snyder and many Republican legislators have not embraced the Democratic legislation to raise the $7.40 an hour wage to $10 an hour.

The last time the minimum wage increased was in 2008 to slightly higher than the $7.25 federal minimum wage.
