Hook and Hunting: DNR Collects Information On Elk Survey

Posted: Updated:

Now that the elk hunt is behind us the DNR is doing research to prepare for next year.

The DNR rotates their survey each year between moose and elk

They have been spending hours flying across regions of Northern Michigan to find out how many elk are around.

The DNR says it helps gather important information for the next harvest.

They say the weather can help track the animals, but blowing snow can make it a little harder for them to see from the plane.

The information from their survey should be available sometime next month.
