Kalkaska Co. Home Total Loss In Late Night Fire

Posted: Updated:
January 23, 2014 -

Several fire departments spent their night on the scene of a house fire in Kalkaska County.

The fire started at a home on Golden Road in Kalkaska late Wednesday night.

Police say the home is a total loss and believe the fire started in the chimney.

The family was home at the time of the fire, but was able to make it out unharmed.

Two family pets died in the flames.

The freezing temperatures created problems for firefighters.

Additional crews had to be brought in to provide extra water.

One of the girls living at the home attends Kalkaska High School.

Administrators are organizing a donation drive for the family to help them rebuild their lives.

Anyone interested in helping can call the high school and ask for Mary Debb at (231) 258-9167.
