Caught On Camera: Colorado Skier Triggers Avalanche

Posted: Updated:

Caught on camera in Colorado, video shows the moment a skier triggers an avalanche from a camera strapped to his head.

Lance Light admits he ignored warnings about dangerous conditions.

He and a friend decided to go back country skiing on Berthoud Pass in Grand County, Colorado.

They had the gear and the knowledge to know what to watch for, but decided to take a risk on a more questionable run.

Within seconds of making the risky drop, Light watched as the snow split beneath him and opened up into a full blown avalanche.

You can see here where the snow swallows him up on the slope.

Luckily, he was able to straight line over the cliff and deploy an airbag and survive.

Avalanche experts say that this is one example that proves avalanches can and will happen just about anywhere.
