USCG Cutter Hollyhock Involved In Sunday Morning Crash

During an ice escort, the Coast Guard Cutter Hollyhock crashed into a another boat in northern Lake Michigan.  

The crash happened Sunday morning while breaking ice in front of the Mesabi Miner, a 990 foot boat.  
The Hollyhock has significant damage including two holes about 20 feet above the water line.  

The Mesabi Miner was on the way to Gary, Indiana and received a crack in the bow.  

No injuries were reported and neither boat has any flooding.  

The Hollyhock arrived in St. Ignace Sunday night for a damage assessment.

    One woman accused of using her body to smuggle drugs into the Wexford County Jail admitted to the crime. Kayci-Jo Coombs pleaded guilty to maintaining a drug house.
