Many Hope the "Neighborhood Grill" Will Rebuild After Devastating Fire

Posted: Updated:

Tonight we have continuing coverage on a restaurant fire Northern Michigan's News Leader first brought you on Michigan This Morning. We have been on scene all day today following the story.

The Ludington Applebee's off of US-10 went up in flames around 4 this morning. It took fire crews several hours to put it out.

The Pere Marquette Township Fire Chief says they believe the fire started near the kitchen. They say the roof collapsed right when they got on scene, making it difficult to fight from the outside of the restaurant.

Rick Singleton lives just miles away from the restaurant and says, "From the size of the flames I thought maybe it was Meijer."

Because of this morning's frigid temperatures, fire crews had to keep their hoses running which lead to icy conditions all over the scene. The Red Cross was on scene to help keep firefighters warm and hydrated.

A fire marshall is scheduled to come on Monday for a full investigation. The restaurant is considered a total loss. Management says they will rebuild.

9&10's Katie Boomgaard and photojournalist Jeff Blevins are on top of the latest information and have more details on what happened.
