Flames and heavy smoke could be seen billowing from Grand Rapids' Fifth Third Ballpark Friday.

The fire started around 11:00 this morning, and continued burning for nearly two hours. The fire is well under control, however firefighters are still finding some hot spots.

The flames started in the first base suites area of the ball park, and spread to the attic. Half of all the suites were destroyed.

Fifth Third Ballpark is home to the West Michigan White Caps. They are the Class A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.

All employees were able to get out safely.

The sprinkler system did not help to put the flames out.

9&10 Vanessa Fayz and photojournalist Jared Barraco are on the scene. Stay with Northern Michigan's News Leader for more details as we get them, and continuing coverage tonight on 9&10 News at 5:00 and 6:00.
