Northern Michigan Shelter Receives Large Contest Prize After Learning of Huge Budget Cut

Posted: Updated:

A Northern Michigan shelter learned about a large budget cut, then got some good news that will help them help others.

The domestic violence shelter is ringing in the new year with a lot of new supplies.

River House Shelter in Grayling won a nation-wide contest through office max during the holidays, and they say it came at the perfect time.

They thought they didn't have a chance but ended up winning the $20,000 grand prize of office supplies.

Now they'll go from using recycled paper from a local school, to having the proper items and equipment they need to serve the community.

New at 6, 9 and 10's Katie Boomgaard spoke with the shelter about how this contest will help them and those they serve.
