Hook & Hunting: Michigan Deer Season Comes To An End

Posted: Updated:

With the dawn of the new year, came the end of the bow hunting season for deer.

But the DNRs work is not done. They are hoping that successful hunters, whether from the bow or firearm seasons, will help them by bringing in their deer, or it's head, with the antlers if it's a buck.

The DNR uses the head to determine the health and age of the animal.

It also helps determine the overall health of the herd.

You can also report your deer online.

DNR wildlife technician Katie Keen says "...and again we just want folks to go online at Michigan.gov/deer.  That's where they can find the survey to fill out after they're done hunting."

If you haven't checked your deer in, you can bring the deer, or just the head, to one of the DNR's main offices in Cadillac, Traverse City, Roscommon, Gaylord or Newberry before January 10th.
