Deputies Investigating Boyne City Man's Death

Deputies in Charlevoix County are investigating the death of a Boyne City man.

The sheriff's department tells 9&10 News William Grice was taken to Charlevoix Area Hospital on Dec. 22, about eight hours after an incident at his home possibly involving a fight with a family member.

Despite emergency surgery, Grice died on Christmas Eve from his injuries.

Deputies are continuing to investigate Grice's death, and do believe alcohol was a role in the incident.

Grice's body was taken to Grand Rapids for a forensic exam. The results of that will be sent to the Charlevoix County prosecutor's office.

9&10's Marisa McKay and photojournalist Jeremy Erickson spoke to the sheriff and the prosecutor about this investigation that is far from closed.

One of William's, or Bill's, brothers was not ready to talk with us on camera, however he did let us know it's been a difficult time.

But despite the hard times ahead, Bill's family is choosing to do something positive in his memory.

A memorial fund has been set up in Bill's name, and the proceeds will go towards projects that will be completed around Boyne City in his honor.

We've posted a link to that fund on this page.
