Cole Gilde's Murder, Child Abuse Case Heads to Circuit Court

Posted: Updated:

The case against a Northern Michigan man accused of abusing and murdering a toddler is moving forward.

Cole Gilde appeared in court for a preliminary exam on Thursday.

Payton Disbrow was killed last December near McBain in Missaukee County. He was just 14-months-old.

Police arrested the child's mother, Brittani Grabon, after his death. She recently plead guilty to second degree murder. Gilde was arrested in November after Grabon agreed to testify against him.

Both are accused of abusing the child and not getting him the medical care he needed.

A judge decided to put him on trial for two counts of second degree murder, not one, because of two pieces of evidence.

Gilde will also be tried on two counts of first degree child abuse and one count of second degree child abuse.

He will return to court after the first of the year.

9&10's Breelynn Martin and Photojournalist Tony Zyber were in court today.
