Snyder Signs Blight Fighting Bills

Posted: Updated:

Governor Snyder signed a series of new laws giving local governments more weapons in the fight against blight.

The new law gives communities the ability to charge property owners and possibly garnish their wages.

Most communities already have ordinances about abandoned structures and junk and cars strewn around properties but there are limits to what they can do.

The eyesores create danger for nearby children and abandoned homes can attract crime.

All reasons why neighbors are the number one source for complaints about local blight.

9&10 News' Eric Lloyd spoke with the family today Mecosta County on how they fight blight already and has more details.
