Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: Crews are still on scene investigating a deadly fire.

A man who was blind died in the flames.

Fire departments were called to the scene just before 4:00 PM Wednesday afternoon.

It happened on Hanna Road in Williamsburg in Grand Traverse County.

At the scene, crews quickly learned Fred Savage could be trapped inside.

Neighbors and family members tried to rescue him, but couldn't.

The state fire marshal, Grand Traverse County rural fire department, and sheriff's department were all on scene through the night, and into Thursday morning, trying to determine the cause of the flames.

Undersheriff Nate Alger says, "today we will continue with the fire marshal to investigate, hoping to find a cause and origin of the fire, we will also be speaking medically to the ME about the body that we found to see if there is any concern about the condition of the body, but at this point we are waiting on the fire marshal and our fire investigator to give us a call."
Crews were still on scene, and will continue to work until they've found a cause.
