Otsego Co. House Fire Takes Life Of Woman

Posted: Updated:

An early morning fire on Sunday in Otsego County took the life of a mother.

A home on Mill St/Old 27 near the corner of Sheridan in Vanderbilt caught fire just before 3:30 AM Sunday.

49-year-old Sharolyn Betterly died in the fire.

Betterly did not live at the home but was staying with her son and his family as she helped them move and celebrate the holidays.

A friend of her grandson was sleeping over and was the one that smelled smoke and awoke the house.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

The upstairs of the house is burned, but the downstairs was spared with only smoke and water damage.

The fire call came from a cell phone of someone inside the house.

The Salvation Arm is helping the family with a place to stay.

9&10's Eric Lloyd and photojournalist Jeff Blakeman looked into the deadly fire and have more details.
