Cheboygan County Sheriff's Department released the names of the people involved in the accident.

It happened Wednesday morning at the intersection of M-68 and Tower, near Onaway in Forest Township.

Through investigation, police determined a car, driven by Melissa Skidmore, was traveling west on M-68 when the driver lost control and crossed the center line.

A propane tanker hit the car just behind the driver's seat which split the car in two. The tanker then rolled onto its side and slid 200 feet down M-68.

Police say Skidmore and the driver of the tanker were taken to the hospital with injuries.

The propane tanker had been on it's side since Wednesday morning, and transferring over the propane isn't an easy job. The fire department says they had to evacuate, turn off cell phones, radio and power to make sure the situation went the safest way possible.

They say one mistake, one rushed step could mean an explosion.

M-68 was closed all day, and crews have finally safely gotten the truck off the road.

People were evacuated Wednesday evening, and many stuck around local restaurants waiting for the okay to return home.

They say it was a scary experience.

Some diners told 9&10 News if the evacuation wasn't lifted, they would stay at the restaurant until breakfast... because they had nowhere else to go.

Luckily, that was not the case.

Police are suspect Skidmore had been drinking. They are still waiting on blood test results.

9&10's Alyssa Gambla and Photojournalist Erin Malone were on the scene Wednesday.
