Captain Of The SS Badger Passes Away

Posted: Updated:

The captain of the SS Badger has passed away.

Captain Dean Hobbs died on Thursday evening while enjoying a hockey game.

His family says "he knew the Great Lakes inside and out and took great pride in his job as captain of the SS Badger and every ship he helmed.  He was an exceptional friend, sailor, father and husband, and he loved his family, especially his three grandkids Walker Dean, Lucy and Nora.  The Lakes and our lives will not be the same without him and we will miss him forever."

A funeral will be held next week for close friends and family.

Arrangements for a larger maritime memorial service will be made at the beginning of 2014.
