SPECIAL REPORT: Historic Wolf Hunt - Northern Michigan's News Leader

SPECIAL REPORT: Historic Wolf Hunt

Posted: Updated:

As thousands of hunters prepare to chase down their trophy buck this weekend, 1,200 hunters will be setting their sights on a different animal, the gray wolf.

Recently removed from the endangered species list, the wolf is now a game animal in the state of Michigan.

Attacks against livestock and dogs lead to the DNR setting a 43 wolf quota spread across three separate units in the Upper Peninsula.

Lines have been drawn by those for and against the hunt but before the future of the hunt can be decided by the voter next November, the first legal hunt will begin Friday morning.

9&10's Eric Lloyd and photojournalist Jeff Blevins dove deep into the fight over the wolves in this two-part special report, the Historic Hunt.
