UPDATE: Police Continue Search For A Missing Rogers City Man

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: Police are looking for any leads to help them find Mikel Schepke.

Mikel Schepke was last seen walking on Birchwood Dr. near Morrill Rd around 1 p.m. Sunday. Search crews have been out since Sunday afternoon, and are expanding their search north of his home near U.S. 23.

Friends say Schepke is mentally handicapped and is diabetic. They say he hadn't eaten much prior to his walk, and could have become ill.

Friends say he may be hiding somewhere from the weather conditions, and is probably very scared. They also say he is shy, so it is not like him to get into a vehicle with a stranger or go towards a stranger.

The Presque Isle County Sheriff's Dept. is getting assistance from fire crews, U.S. Coast Guard and the community.

Search crews have yet to find any tips. They're looking for articles of clothing, footprints or anything that could lead them to Schepke.

He was last seen wearing dark jeans, a dark blue coat and a blue hat. Schepke is about 6'01" and about 175 pounds.

Police are asking the public to contact Presque Isle Central Dispatch at (989) 734-2156 or Michigan State Police Alpena Post at (989) 354-4101.

9&10's Alyssa Gambla and photojournalist Erin Malone spoke to people at the search to find out more.
