Michigan Recipients Will See Cuts In Food Assistance

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Beginning Friday, more than 1.8 million people in Michigan who receive government food assistance will be getting less aid.

That's because extra benefits included as part of the federal stimulus program back in 2009 are ending.

According to the Michigan Department of Human Services, the average family of four who gets help will see $36 less a month.

Since the aid is added to debit cards once a month, some will notice the decline earlier than others.

Recipients can call DHS at 888-689-8914 to find out their exact status.
