A deadly accident Friday morning claimed the life of an 11-year-old boy.

He was in the SUV with his two sisters, on the way to school when their car hit a patch of ice, and crashed.

The accident happened on US-10 near Maple Road in Branch Township just before 8:00 Friday morning.

The SUV went off the road, rolled and hit a tree. All three were wearing seatbelts.

Emergency crews used the "Jaws of Life" to free the victims.

11-year-old Garrett Lake was riding in the SUV and died in the crash. The accident happened the same day as his birthday.

The driver, his older sister, was airlifted to the hospital.

Their other 13-year-old sister also with them had minor injuries.

All three attend Mason County Eastern Schools.

The district has grief counselors on hand to help students cope with the loss.

9&10's Breelynn Martin and Photojournalist Jacob Johnson spoke with police.
