Snowy Weather Causing Grape Harvest Delays

Posted: Updated:

The snowy weather is delaying the grape harvest but many vineyards still have great expectations for this year.

Chateau Chantal on Old Mission Peninsula was only able to harvest for a couple hours yesterday but crews were back at it again today.

The vineyard does not harvest grapes if the fruit is too wet with snow or rain because that can dilute the wine.

Despite the weather slowing things down, many are still expecting a great harvest.

Bowers Harbor Vineyards says a labor shortage of migrant workers in the area coupled with the weather is adding to the delays.

Workers hope the weather does not slow them down as they try to finish the harvest in the next couple weeks.

Kyle Mitchell and Photojournalist Tony Zyber have more on how the weather is impacting the grape crop.
