Millions Go Towards Improving Great Lake Fish Habitats

Posted: Updated:

15.8 million dollars will go toward improving fish habitat in the Great Lakes region.

Part of that money will go toward restoring water flow in the St. Mary's River near Sault Ste. Marie.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is sponsoring the projects.

They hope to restore nearly 1,000 acres of marsh and wetland habitat, and open more than 34 stream miles for fish passage.

Other projects will focus on the Detroit River and Manistique River.
