MDOT Closing Higgins Lake US-127 Rest Area - Northern Michigan's News Leader

MDOT Closing Higgins Lake US-127 Rest Area

Posted: Updated:

MDOT is closing a rest area on US-127 because not enough people are using it.

The rest area in Roscommon County near Higgins Lake will shut down on December 2nd.

It is just south of Grayling.

MDOT says only about 500 people use it daily.

That's not worth a $3-4 million upgrade.

MDOT will remove the building and access ramps during a construction project on US-127 in 2014.

They will still own the site and consider a possible redevelopment in the future.
