UPDATE: Onaway Man Officially Charged For Domestic Violence

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: October 16

Presque Isle County Sheriff's Department received a phone call with a domestic violence tip on Tuesday around 1:23 AM.  The woman calling said her friend spoke to her about a fight with her boyfriend in Onaway. The woman who called police told them she thought she heard two gunshots and screaming in the background of the call.

Police barricaded M-33 and all roads that led to the home for public safety. Police also notified area schools and businesses about the incident so they could shut down.

Police say another call came in reporting gun fire could be heard in a nearby trailer park. The 9&10 News team saw officers removing guns from the residence later in the day.

Police say alcohol was involved in the dispute.

The 29-year-old Matthew Wenn was alone in the house when police arrived. His girlfriend and children live in the home, but left to go to a friend's residence.

After failed attempts to reach Wenn in the home, the task force surrounding the home spoke over the car speaker. They told the suspect to come through the front door and he complied just after 9:00 AM.

Wenn was arrested on assault charges and was arraigned in court Wednesday morning.

Wenn faces two charges including domestic violence and possession of a firearm under the influence of alcohol.

He pleaded not guilty and is expected back in court on October 29th.

9&10's Alyssa Gambla and photojournalist Erin Malone were at the scene all Tuesday and have more details.
