Apple Cider Makers Need License To Sell Product

Posted: Updated:

A reminder to people making and selling apple cider.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development says producers must get a license before selling their product.

Officials have had several reports of unlicensed apple cider facilities.

Improperly pasteurized cider can cause bacterial infections, leading to severe illness and even death.

State law also requires every Michigan cider mill to have a certified food safety specialist on staff.
