UPDATE: MSP Trooper Shot In Bullet Proof Vest

Posted: Updated:

A northern Michigan-based state trooper is home tonight after surviving a shooting in Saginaw.

Fortunately, the trooper was wearing a bullet proof vest while working on a rotation at the tri-cities post.

State Police are not releasing the name but we do know the trooper normally works with the Houghton Lake Post.

Troopers responded to a report of a shooting last night in Saginaw.

They saw a man who looked like the suspect enter an abandoned home.

As police approached the house, shots went off and the trooper was hit.

The suspect was wounded and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The post says the trooper volunteered for the assignment to assist the tri-cities post. The program provides additional state troopers to help reduce crime in cities like Saginaw.
