2nd American Astronaut To Orbit Earth Dies at Age 88

DENVER (AP) -- The 2nd American to orbit Earth has died.

Scott Carpenter, one of America's pioneering astronaut died Thursday at the age of 88. 

Carpenter was one of the last surviving original Mercury 7 astronauts. 

His wife says Carpenter died of complications from a stroke in a Denver hospice. 

Scott was the first man to explore the depths of the ocean and the heights of space.
